Multicultural Britain.

As a foreigner there are many good experiences and few bad experiences. Good experiences in terms like people are very helpful, friendly, caring and respectful towards other minorities, also people of Britain are more interested in knowing and functioning of other cultures. People of Britain try to get involved and also celebrate the festivals and share cultural values with other ethnic groups. Bad experience in the sense that even though Britain today is free and multicultural in some parts of Britain there still exist racism, I'm not expressing this on general grounds but on the fact that i have experienced such thing where small percentage of native people try to tease, give a angry look or speak rudely with people other than white in colour. Such thing does happen not only in the surrounding area of my house but also in city like Cardiff. Most surprising thing of all it is young generation more into this rather than middle aged or aged people. Overall experience of living in Britain is very exciting and will be helpful in future. In terms of education, it is not the fact that only students from other countries get the good grades but native students too many a times out perform in class. Further more during the projects and presentations they try to work as team with other ethnic groups. According to the words of Tony Blair "Inequality is wasting the talent and opportunites of other ethnic group to develop their skills, since this talent could be helpful towards growing economy of the Britain."

Middle class, A history.

By reading the report on "New Middle Britain", it is clear that people in middle class are more possessive about their whereabouts in terms of saving and investing as they prefer to look for long term investments like shares and property. In contrast, people in working are more free towards their expenditure and prefer to look for short term savings, as they have no hope for long term investments due to their low wages. New class types are emerging as compared to traditional class types like Rich Ordinary Britains(ROB), High Earning Workers(HEW) and Suburban Assests Lightweights (SAL).
According to research significant number of profession mismatches, for e.g. 36% of builders consider themselves in middle class and 30% of doctors consider themselves as working class. People in working class category rate income as their most important priority where as middle class give more importance to education and housing. When it comes to owning a house, 40% of middle class own their house right away without any loans or mortgages which is less than 30% for the working class people.
According to Snell.N " the old-world definition of class is finding alternative as it is becoming significant to live in todays world with measures like, investment, income and property assets. Eventhough wealth gap between working and middle class is tremendous, Saving on daily basis needs to be incorporated by everyone no matter if it is little often."

Employment in Britain.

1. During the recruitment and selection process organisation seeks to eliminate any type of unwanted bias issues as employees are being chosen on their capability to perform the task they are recruited for. Employee is chosen on the aspect that he would be flexible in work practices, dedicated and committed towards the issued task, avoiding any unlawful practices and would always work in groups or teams during essential projects.

2. One of the biggest employment issue in Britain is that of International Recruitment Trends which is increasing day by day due to globalisation of market place and due to shortage of skilled work force and advancement in technology, other issues gripping employment is discrimination at workplace, taking time off work due to family problems like raising family, sickness or taking break off due to graduating from college. Their are also issues like minimum wages paid towards employees, leaving the job in between without any further notice or just resigning because one does not like the harassment done by boss or if theirs no satisfactory pay.

3. Employer sought after the following skills to be present in an employee like Communication skills, Analytical/ Research skills, Computer literacy, Flexibility and Adaptability, Leadership skills, Multicultural Awareness, Planning, Problem solving techniques and last but not the least Teamwork. More over employer also seek for personal skills in an employee such as Integrity, Hard working, reliability and loyalty, Positive attitude, Self confidence towards working without any guidance or support and finally willingness to learn.

4. Before accepting the job employee must read the papers thoroughly before signing any contracts. Also one should not fall prey to the jobs that promise easy lifestyle and high payments. Employee should always consider for Benefits like yearly holidays, sick leaves, casual leaves, paid leaves, and travelling benefit. Insurance benefits like medical cover of whole family, life insurance and long term disability and short term disability plans. Financial benefits like Thrift plan, Profit Plan and Company pension plan. Further educational benefits like Reimbursement of tuition fees, additional educational and training programs conducted by company and applying for the membership and subscription of professional journals used by the company. Moreover company should also provide extra benefits services like, relocation benefits, equipments from company(mobile phone, laptop, company car) with addition to Employee assistance program (program which deals with confidential concerns like family issues, emotions, marriage life, alcohol/drug use, problems regarding job and legal concerns. Eventhough all of this benefits may not be given by the company but company tries to satisfy as much as possible to keep the employee engaged and devoted towards his work and duties at work place.

What is St. Davids Day

  • St. David was a patron saint in Wales and he is also known as Dewi Saint in Welsh Language. He lived in 6th Century, and was one of the early saints who spread the word of christianity in Westrn Britain. He acquried a position of Archbishop during his lifetime.
  • People celebrate this day because on this day St David died in around 589AD. It is a Welsh festival and everybody is invited to join, where people come together in creative and dignified celebration of culture in wales.
  • It has been seen that most of the people wear the both of the national symbols i.e. daffodils and leek, where daffodils are worn by women and leek are worn by men on there lapel. These flowers blooms in month of march also another significant fact is that both have almost same names in Welsh language i.e. leek (Cenin) and for daffodils (Cenin Bedr) which means Peter's Leek. One can also eat a leek and become proud to be a welshmen.

Employment in Britain

1. I choose to have University education because I have affinity for studying things that interest me and due to which I will be able to present my specific identity in World in Subject of my interest.

2. India and Britain have long relation in between themselves, most important thing is duration of study is the shortest in the World, due to which i save on my years and bucks too. Also the quality of education and the pattern of study is very different from country, its to advanced and curriculum is designed according to present industrial needs.

3. The University education will help me in many ways say for example: I will not only learn the subjects but will also learn to get involved in it. I will how to do research and also gain management skills which will help me a lot when taking managerial decision in company.

4. I will learn to be an allrounder in my life and and solve the problems at job place based on knowledge i have and experience i have accquired at University.

5. I Don't want to get stuck in doing the same job for years and years, rather I would like to keep on progressing in my life and handle new projects every now and then. Also not to halt any decision, due to financial conditions.

6. Yeah! I think , i'm more lucky when it comes to gaining University education, many of my friends who had interest in studies had to leave their studies in between due to personal problems. Also i'm gaining an experience that very few have chance to encounter.

7. I imagine my lifestyle would be comfortable in terms of everything, from handling an important position in firm, to live in a house where i'll feel calm and peace, also to be strong enough to fulfil all the needs that i require.

8. I see myself struggling alot to acheive even a little bit of success, furthermore even it would be difficult to meet the ends need. Restriction would be faced at each situation.

9. As India is considered to be developing country, there is lot of job opportunites but to find one that suits you is bit struggling. There is one job psychology in India that is, a persons promotion and pay doubles every 6 months if worked in MNC. Even though i will enter as a trainee engineer, with international degree and experience gained from University education, i will boost my level to prominent position in firm in no time.

Health issues in Britain

As far as Britain's geographical location is considered Health doesn't seem to be problem. But problems arises because of the diet of the people is not perfect. More and more people are becoming obese by eating junk-foods. It is relatively easy for person to get a medical benefit because of NHS(National Health Services) which keeps low on cost of medicines.
1. Health issues change as per the region, the people staying in and around the city area are more prone to mental illnesses and health issues because of the pollution whereas the people staying in suburbs or remote parts have mostly age related health problems.
2. There seems to be vast differences in UK for health issues when it comes to social class. People give lot of importance to the persons lifestyle, housing, and neighbourhood conditions. It is seen that if this aspect of area is controlled then there is significant reduction in Social class differences in the society.
3. There's a huge issues on gender in Britain when it comes to health, since women have more biological problems then men, as womens bodies are more complex. Also differences in gender and inequalities are faced by men and women when class and ethnicity is taken into consideration. But mostly health services look forward to reduce this differences and inequalities.
4. In Britain there seems to be more fluctuations due to some disease by ethnicity then socio-economic conditions. Ehtnic health inequalities has risen due to following : High rates of poverty between BME(BLACK AND MINORITY ETHNIC), jobless, lack of ameneties and good living conditions. This is a longterm effect due to imigration, racial discrimination, lack of health care differences in life style.
5. In UK expenditure on health is very large. It was under £50bn in 2000 used for health care. A large part of the funds is given to NHS. It also depends on the region where the ratio of funds for the health care is distributed for the people.
