Histroy Of Halloween.


1. Celtic Irish and Druid belived it is a day where life meets the death.As it is the day when summer seasons ends and start of cold winter begins.It is also called as Souls Days when all souls are supposed to come out of there grave.

2. Probably it was 31st October that tradition of wearing mask and costumes strated.Celts wore costumes made from animal skin and heads of animal. They use to dance around the bonfire in this costume and told fortune,they enjoyed the bonfire all naight and waited for New Year to begin.
Also some legends say that people wear mask and costumes on 31st October to avoid getting possessed by spirits for winter, the shouting and dancing around the bonfire supposed to have keep spirits away from the living beings.

3a. 1st November was called All Saints Days or All Hallow's Day.Later it was called as Hallow's eve day this name later got famous as we know today as Halloween Day.
3b.It is still unclear from where did the origin of giving sweets came from but it is belived that poor children use to go from door to door of each house and pray for their lost souls and in return ask for some sweets may be small cake.
Due to some tradition it is believed that people leaving gifts and food outside their house on 31st October so when spirits come door to door to possess the inhabitants of the house they use to be left safe by the spirits if they found treat left for them.

Thanks for such a comprehensive answer. The origins of Halloween are certainly strange. What I find strange is the fact that we still celebrate it! The Christian feast day is November 1st.

I'm very unfortunate that we don't have such kind of festival in our country........In India there must some celebration in some part but not to this extent...........I really enjoyed Halloween night....as it was my first experience.
